Map view

This topic describes the purpose of the ESPA analysis center screen's Map view and all the settings and buttons on it.

This feature requires your account to be configured with the ESPA analysis center screen.

Depending on your theme the Map view can by default either display in the center of the other views or it can display on the full screen with the other views overlayed. The selected theme also determines which controls are available on the map and where they are located.

The Map view has a variety of controls and menus such as layer selection settings, map controls, view controls, sector selection, drawing tools, and a button for printing the map. It also displays a variety of messages for example, errors, analysis completion and session timeouts.

Use to select which views you want to display. The features available on this control is dependent on the theme that you are using. If the theme has a Style setting of:

  • Classic: then this control allows you to show and hide each of the views surrounding the map individually.

  • Floating and Slideable: then this control allows you to show and hide each of the views surrounding the map individually. It also allows you to show all views, hide all views and reset the view sizes and positions to their defaults.

Click to open the Narrative manager dialog box which allows you to create and edit your narratives.

This button is only displayed if the theme uses classic controls. Click on the arrows to pan across the map. For further information refer to Panning across the map.

This button is only displayed if the theme uses classic controls. Click on + or - to zoom in an out of the map. For further information refer to Zooming into the map.

This button is only displayed if the theme uses modern controls. Click on + or - to zoom in an out of the map. For further information refer to Zooming into the map.

Click to maximize the map and close the surrounding views that are open.

This button is only displayed when the map has been maximized. Click to restore the size of the map and reopen the views that were previously open.

Click to open the print screen which allows you to select what area of the map you want printed and what, if any, pop-ups you want displayed. For further information refer to Printing the map view.

Click to open a menu displaying the following options:

  • Show all panels: Click to display all the views. Note, this menu item is not available to select when the WNF analysis center screen is being viewed using a theme with the classic style.
  • Save drawing layer: Click to save any polygons, lines or arrows that you have created.
  • Clear drawing layer: Click to clear any polygons, lines or arrows that are currently displayed on the map.
  • Drawing appearance: Click to open the Drawing options dialog box. This allows you to set the default appearance when you first create a polygon, line or arrow. It does not change the appearance of existing items. To change the appearance of an existing item you must right-click the existing item and select either Modify polygon appearance, Modify line appearance or Modify arrow appearance.
  • Export map to MapPoint and Google Earth: Click to export the currently selected map layers to a KML format that you can then use in Google Earth or MapPoint.
    • Network and network labels: if either are selected then both are exported. However the only network locations which are exported are those in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Polygons: all polygons are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Target locations: all target locations are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map. In Google Earth the target location icons are displayed as they are in OSS-ESPA, however in MapPoint the target locations are only displayed using the same color as in OSS-ESPA but without the graphic.
    • Sectors: all sectors are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Towers by usage: all the usage details of each sector irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map are exported and can be viewed in Google Earth. In Google Earth the height of the sector represents its usage.
    • Calls by day: all the calls from the selected phone numbers are exported and you can select to view them in Google Earth on a day by day basis.
    • Cell coverage and WiFi coverage: all signal trails and drive trails are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Geo-location: all the geo-location events and confidence circles are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
  • Export timeline to Google Earth: Click to export the currently selected map layers to a KML format that you can then use in Google Earth. The same layers are exported as with Export map to Google Earth, however this export places the data into a timeline folder which allows you to adjust the timeline slider in Google Earth to display all the activity during a specific time-frame.
    • Network and network labels: if either are selected then both are exported. However the only network locations which are exported are those in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Polygons: all polygons are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Target locations: all target locations are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map. In Google Earth the target location icons are displayed as they are in OSS-ESPA, however in MapPoint the target locations are only displayed using the same color as in OSS-ESPA but without the graphic.
    • Sectors: all sectors are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Towers by usage: all the usage details of each sector irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map are exported and can be viewed in Google Earth. In Google Earth the height of the sector represents its usage.
    • Calls by day: all the calls from the selected phone numbers are exported and you can select to view them in Google Earth on a day by day basis.
    • Cell coverage and WiFi coverage: all signal trails and drive trails are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.

  • Export map to GAR: Click to export the currently selected map layers to a format that you can then use in your GAR unit.
    • Network and network labels: if either are selected then both are exported. However the only network locations which are exported are those in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Polygons: all polygons are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Target locations: all target locations are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.
    • Sectors: all sectors are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the WNF analysis center's map.

  • Export CDRs to CSV: Click to export a .csv file of the CDR data. This.csv file is not identical to the CDR file you uploaded, the differences are that this one:

    • only contains the call records for the time period set in the Date filter.
    • does not contain data calls unless you have selected to include them in the Advanced options dialog box.
    • includes an Active column which is equivalent to the check box on the CDR data tab. A 1 indicates that the check box is selected.

    • includes an ErrorCode column which indicates if there is any issue with the CDR record:

      • 0 indicates there is no issue.
      • 1 indicates the originating sector orientation (azimuth) was not available in the cell tower data file.
      • 2 indicates the location information for the call record could not be found in the cell tower data file.
      • 4 indicates the terminating sector orientation (azimuth) was not available in the cell tower data file.
      • 8 indicates the time zone of the switch could not be determined from the cell tower data file.

    This is identical to clicking in the CDR data tab to export the .csv file.

  • Export phone numbers: Click to export a .csv file of all the phone numbers of the currently displayed CDR records along with their number of calls. The number of calls is the sum of the calls where the phone number is either the originating or the destination number.

  • Export call analyses to CSV: Click to export a .csv file of the call analysis results that are currently displayed on the Call analyses tab.

  • Export timeline to CSV: Click to export a .csv file of the timeline data. This.csv file is not identical to the combined CDR file and the phone data files you uploaded, the differences are that this one:

    • only contains the call records and phone data records for the time period set in the Date filter.
    • only includes phone data records with latitude and longitude.
    • does not contain data calls unless you have selected to include them in the Advanced options dialog box.
    • it also contains target locations which have times associated with them.

    This is identical to clicking in the Timeline tab to export the .csv file.

  • Save map view: Click to save the current map configuration. A Save map dialog box opens allowing you to enter a name for your map configuration and to select or create a folder you want it saved to. You can only save maps to folders you manually created, they cannot be saved to folders created by an analysis. The saved map is then displayed in the analysis folder on the Call analyses tab. The complete list of map details saved is:

    • The case file number, phone user details, CDR data, sector data, target locations, timeline, contact data, RTT data, HO data, public records and maps.
    • The map zoom.
    • Any filters, column selections and column ordering applied to any tabs.
    • The calls and call locations that are selected on the CDR data tab.
    • The sectors that are selected on the Sector data tab.
    • The target locations that are selected on the Target locations tab.
    • The address locations and the record usage that are selected on the Public records tab.
    • The RTT arcs that are selected on the RTT data tab.
    • The handovers that are selected on the HO data tab.

    NOTE: The coverage maps are not saved along with these details. To save coverage maps use Save cell coverage or Save WiFi coverage.

  • Save cell coverage: Click to save the current cell coverage configuration. A Save coverage dialog box opens allowing you to: select the cell coverage analysis you want to save (only if multiple are open), select which folder to save it to and to enter a name for your cell coverage configuration. Note, you can only save a cell coverage configuration to its own folder or a folder you manually created.

    NOTE: The map configuration details are not saved along with the cell coverage map. To save the map configuration details use Save map view.

  • Add to favorites: Click to add all the cell coverage results currently displayed on the map to the Favorites folder. Note, the Favorites folder is always displayed at the top of the Cell coverage tab and on the Case analysis tab. The Favorites folder is useful for adding important cell coverage results to so that you can easily reference them in the future.

  • Save WiFi coverage: Click to save the current WiFicoverage configuration. A Save coverage dialog box opens allowing you to select which folder to save it to and to enter a name for your WiFi coverage configuration. Note, you can only save a WiFi coverage configuration to its own folder or a folder you manually created.

    NOTE: The map configuration details are not saved along with the WiFi coverage map. To save the map configuration details use Save map view.

This menu also appears if you right-click an area on the map where there are no sectors.

Click this icon to select the add target locations mode. When the add target locations mode is selected the icon's background is orange. The add target location mode provides an additional method of adding target locations. It allows you to click a location on the map and add it as a target location. Once added, the target location is displayed on the Target locations taband the Locations section of the Manage case screen. For further information refer to Adding target locations using the map.

Click this icon to select the measure distance mode. When the measure distance mode is selected the icon's background is orange. The measure distance mode allows you to estimate distances on the map. For example, it is useful for estimating the distance a cell covers, or the distance between cells. For further information refer to Measuring distance on the map.

Click this icon to select the arrow drawing mode. When arrow drawing mode is selected the icon's background is orange. Arrow drawing mode allows you to draw arrows on the map which can be used to annotate reports. For further information refer to To annotate your map view with arrows.

Click this icon to select the line drawing mode. When line drawing mode is selected the icon's background is orange. Line drawing mode allows you to draw lines on the map which can be used to identify areas on the map for reports. For further information refer to To annotate your map view with lines.

Click this icon to select the polygon drawing mode. When polygon drawing mode is selected the icon's background is orange. Polygon drawing mode allows you to draw polygons on the map which can be used to identify your drive area. For further information refer to Selecting your drive area.

Click this icon to select the normal map operation mode. When normal map operation is selected the icon's background is orange. Normal map operation mode allows you to do such things as view sector and target information.

This button is only displayed if the Cell coverage tab is open. Click the button to display a menu which allows you to select what type of cell coverage result you want displayed then click the sector of interest. The cell coverage result is displayed on the map. If you have more than one analysis open on the Cell coverage tab or more than one channel that provides cell coverage for the selected sector then the Cell coverage dialog box opens allowing you to select the coverage analysis of interest. Click the sector once more to remove the cell coverage from the map. For further information on each of the cell coverage results refer to About cell and WiFi coverage maps.

Click to open a view which allows you to select which map layers you want displayed. For further information refer to Viewing different map layers.

This button is only displayed when you are on the print screen. Click if you want the map to print in portrait view. For further information refer to Printing the map view.

This button is only displayed when you are on the print screen. Click if you want the map to print in landscape view. For further information refer to Printing the map view.

If you right-click on any sector displayed on the Map view a menu displays with the following options:

  • Select all calls from this sector and Deselect all calls from this sector

    By default the WNF analysis center displays all the sectors used by the selected phones within the selected time period. However to allow you to investigate more easily the locations of specific calls you can select which sectors you want displayed. The following graphic indicates the three effects used to display a sector:

    • on the map, the sector you selected is displayed in a dark transparency effect which indicates that all calls from this sector have been selected.
    • on the map, any other sectors involved with an originating call (and also a terminating call if Exclude terminating towers is deselected) with the selected sector are displayed in either a dark transparency or a light transparency effect. The transparency effect used is dependent on the other sector's state: the dark transparency effect indicates that all calls from this other sector have been selected; and the light transparency effect indicates that only some of the calls from the other sector have been selected.
    • on the Data view's CDR data tab, all the calls associated with the sector you selected on the map are selected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether a call is selected or deselected.
    • on the Data view's Sector data tab, the sector you selected on the map is selected and any other sectors involved with either an originating or terminating call with the selected sector are either partially deselected or deselected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether all calls from the sector are either; selected (dark check), partially selected (gray check) or deselected (unchecked).
    • on the map, the sector you deselected is displayed as an outline with no transparency effect which indicates that all calls from this sector have been deselected. Note, if Show sectors without any call selection is deselected then the sector is no longer displayed on the map.
    • on the map, any other sectors involved with an originating call (and also a terminating call if Exclude terminating towers is deselected) with the deselected sector are displayed in either a light transparency or as an outline with no transparency effect. The effect used is dependent on the other sector's state: the light transparency effect indicates that some of the calls from the other sector are still selected; and the outline with no transparency effect indicates that all calls from the other sector have been deselected. Note, if Show sectors without any call selection is deselected then any sectors which now have no selected calls are no longer displayed on the map.
    • on the Data view's CDR data tab, all the calls associated with the sector you deselected on the map are deselected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether a call is selected or deselected.
    • on the Data view's Sector data tab, the sector you deselected on the map is deselected and any other sectors involved with either an originating or terminating call with the deselected sector are either partially deselected or deselected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether all calls from the sector are either; selected (dark check), partially selected (gray check) or deselected (unchecked).

  • Sector properties...

    Click to open the Sector information dialog box which allows you to view and edit the details of the sector and include them in advanced analysis reports. For further information refer to Sector information dialog box.

If you right-click an area on the map where multiple sectors are located then select either Select all calls from this sector or Deselect all calls from this sector the Select Sectors dialog box opens which allows you to select which of the sectors you are interested in. For further information refer to Select sectors dialog box.

If you right-click an area on the map where multiple sectors are located then select Select properties the Select Sector dialog box opens which allows you to select and view the information of each sector individually. For further information refer to Select sector dialog box.

If you right-click an area on the map where there are no sectors then a menu opens displaying the following options:

This menu also appears if you click .

If you right-click an area on an existing polygon then a menu opens displaying the following options:

  • Remove polygon: Click to delete the selected polygon.

  • Rename polygon: Click to change the selected polygon's name from the default name. By default the polygons are named as "Polygon n" where n is an integer.

  • Resize and move polygon: Click to change the selected polygon's size and position. When you select this, a solid orange circle is displayed in the center and at one point of the polygon. Click the orange circle at the point of the polygon to rotate and re-size the polygon. Click the circle in the center of the polygon to move the polygon to a new position.

  • Modify polygon appearance: Click to change the line, fill and text of the selected polygon. The Drawing options dialog box opens. This only changes the selected polygon's appearance, if you want to change the default appearance of all new polygon's click then Drawing appearance.
  • Save drawing layer: Click to save any polygons, lines or arrows that you have created.
  • Save polygon as a target location: Click to save the polygon as a target location. The Target location information dialog box opens with the latitude and longitude defined as being the center of the polygon. You can then enter the name and any other details you want to include then click OK. The target location is now included on the Target locations tab and the Legend view and is identified as a polygon target location by . Note, you cannot change the Location type of a polygon.

  • Modify polygon boundaries: Click to change the selected polygon's boundaries. When you select this, each point on the polygon displays a solid orange circle, and the center point of each segment of the polygon displays a shaded orange circle. Click these solid and shaded circles to adjust the polygon boundaries.

  • Select all calls inside the polygon: Click to select all the calls made from the sectors which have coverage within the polygon boundaries. If there are multiple sectors involved in the area then the Select sectors dialog box opens and allows you to select the sectors of interest. The CDR data tab is then updated to show these calls as selected. Note, any previously selected calls will still remain selected on the CDR data tab.
  • Select all calls outside the polygon: Click to select all the calls made from the sectors which have coverage outside the polygon boundaries. The CDR data tab is then updated to show these calls as selected. Note, any previously selected calls will still remain selected on the CDR data tab.
  • Select all geo-loc data inside the polygon: Click to select all the geo-location events that occurred within the polygon boundaries. The Geo-loc data tab is then updated to show these events as selected. Note, any previously selected events will still remain selected on the Geo-loc data tab.
  • Select all geo-loc data outside the polygon: Click to select all the geo-location events that occurred outside the polygon boundaries. The Geo-loc data tab is then updated to show these events as selected. Note, any previously selected events will still remain selected on the Geo-loc data tab.
  • Select all arcs inside the polygon: Click to select all the full and partial RTT arcs that occurred inside the polygon boundaries. The RTT data tab is then updated to show these events as selected. Note, any previously selected events will still remain selected on the RTT data tab.

This feature is useful for annotating maps for advanced analysis reports. If you right-click an area on an existing line then a menu opens displaying the following options:

  • Remove line: Click to delete the selected line.
  • Rename line: Click to change the selected line's name from the default name. By default the lines are named as "Line n" where n is an integer.

  • Resize and move line: Click to change the selected line's size and position. When you select this, the end and the center of the line display a solid orange circle. Click the orange circle on the end of the line to rotate and re-size the line. Click the circle in the center of the line to move the line to a new position.

  • Modify line appearance: Click to change the appearance of the line and text of the selected line. The Drawing options dialog box opens. This only changes the selected line's appearance, if you want to change the default appearance of all new line's click then Drawing appearance.
  • Save drawing layer: Click to save any polygons, lines or arrows that you have created.
  • Save line as target location: Click to save the line as a target location. The Target location information dialog box opens with the latitude and longitude defined as being the start of the line. You can then enter the name and any other details you want to include then click OK. The target location is now included on the Target locations tab and the Legend view and is identified as a line target location by . Note, you cannot change the Location type of a line from the drawing type.

This feature is useful for annotating maps for advanced analysis reports. If you right-click an area on an existing line then a menu opens displaying the following options:

  • Remove arrow: Click to delete the selected arrow.
  • Rename arrow: Click to change the selected arrow's name from the default name. By default the arrows are named as "Arrow n" where n is an integer.

  • Resize and move arrow: Click to change the selected arrow's size and position. When you select this, the point and the center of the arrow display a solid orange circle. Click the orange circle on the point of the arrow to rotate and re-size the arrow. Click the circle in the center of the arrow to move the arrow to a new position.

  • Modify arrow appearance: Click to change the appearance of the line and text of the selected arrow. The Drawing options dialog box opens. This only changes the selected arrow's appearance, if you want to change the default appearance of all new arrow's click then Drawing appearance.
  • Save drawing layer: Click to save any polygons, lines or arrows that you have created.
  • Save arrow as target location: Click to save the arrow as a target location. The Target location information dialog box opens with the latitude and longitude defined as being the point of the arrow. Note, you cannot change the Location type of a line from the drawing type.

The key advantage of the ESPA analysis center over the WNF analysis center is that if your workspace is large, possibly you have multiple monitors, then you may prefer to open the other views, for example the Analyses results and Data views, in individual screens, leaving the map on a screen of it's own.

The Map view has a variety of controls and menus such as layer selection settings, map controls, view controls, sector selection, drawing tools, and a button for printing the map. It also displays a variety of messages for example, errors, analysis completion and session timeouts.

These icons only display if you have minimized the Input and settings view on the map. Click to reopen the Input and settings view. The icon can be either red or green:

  • The red spinning icon indicates that you have not yet loaded the case data onto the ESPA analysis center by clicking Refresh.
  • The green stationary icon indicates that you have loaded the case data onto the ESPA analysis center by clicking Refresh.

This button is only displayed if the theme uses classic controls. Click on the arrows to pan across the map. For further information refer to Panning across the map.

This button is only displayed if the theme uses classic controls. Click on + or - to zoom in an out of the map. For further information refer to Zooming into the map.

Click to maximize the map and close the surrounding views that are open.

This button is only displayed when the map has been maximized. Click to restore the size of the map and reopen the views that were previously open.

Click to open the print screen which allows you to select what area of the map you want printed and what, if any, pop-ups you want displayed. For further information refer to Printing the map view.

Click to open a menu displaying the following options:

  • Save drawing layer: Click to save any polygons, lines or arrows that you have created.
  • Clear drawing layer: Click to clear any polygons, lines or arrows that are currently displayed on the map.

In Google Earth the target location icons are displayed as they are in OSS-ESPA, however in MapPoint the target locations are only displayed using the same color as in OSS-ESPA but without the graphic.
    • Sectors: all sectors are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the ESPA analysis center's map.
    • Towers by usage: all the usage details of each sector irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the ESPA analysis center's map are exported and can be viewed in Google Earth. In Google Earth the height of the sector represents its usage.
    • Calls by day: all the calls from the selected phone numbers are exported and you can select to view them in Google Earth on a day by day basis.
    • Cell coverage and WiFi coverage: all signal trails and drive trails are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the ESPA analysis center's map.
    • Geo-location: all the geo-location events and confidence circles are exported irrespective of whether or not they are in the current zoom area of the ESPA analysis center's map.
  • Export map to GAR: Click to export the currently selected map layers to a format that you can then use in your GAR unit.

    • includes an Active column which is equivalent to the check box on the CDR data tab. A 1 indicates that the check box is selected.

    • includes an ErrorCode column which indicates if there is any issue with the CDR record:

      • 0 indicates there is no issue.
      • 1 indicates the originating sector orientation (azimuth) was not available in the cell tower data file.
      • 2 indicates the location information for the call record could not be found in the cell tower data file.
      • 4 indicates the terminating sector orientation (azimuth) was not available in the cell tower data file.
      • 8 indicates the time zone of the switch could not be determined from the cell tower data file.

    This is identical to clicking in the CDR data tab to export the .csv file.

  • Export phone numbers: Click to export a .csv file of all the phone numbers of the currently displayed CDR records along with their number of calls. The number of calls is the sum of the calls where the phone number is either the originating or the destination number.

  • Export call analyses to CSV: Click to export a .csv file of the call analysis results that are currently displayed on the Call analyses tab.

  • Export timeline to CSV: Click to export a .csv file of the timeline data. This.csv file is not identical to the combined CDR file and the phone data files you uploaded, the differences are that this one:

    • only contains the call records and phone data records for the time period set in the Date filter.
    • only includes phone data records with latitude and longitude.
    • does not contain data calls unless you have selected to include them in the Advanced options dialog box.
    • it also contains target locations which have times associated with them.

    This is identical to clicking in the Timeline tab to export the .csv file.

  • Save map view: Click to save the current map configuration. A Save map dialog box opens allowing you to enter a name for your map configuration and to select or create a folder you want it saved to. You can only save maps to folders you manually created, they cannot be saved to folders created by an analysis. The saved map is then displayed in the analysis folder on the Call analyses tab. The complete list of map details saved is:

    • The case file number, phone user details, CDR data, sector data, target locations, timeline, contact data, RTT data, HO data, public records and maps.
    • The map zoom.
    • Any filters, column selections and column ordering applied to any tabs.
    • The calls and call locations that are selected on the CDR data tab.
    • The sectors that are selected on the Sector data tab.
    • The target locations that are selected on the Target locations tab.
    • The address locations and the record usage that are selected on the Public records tab.
    • The RTT arcs that are selected on the RTT data tab.
    • The handovers that are selected on the HO data tab.

    NOTE: The coverage maps are not saved along with these details. To save coverage maps use Save cell coverage or Save WiFi coverage.

  • Save cell coverage: Click to save the current cell coverage configuration. A Save coverage dialog box opens allowing you to: select the cell coverage analysis you want to save (only if multiple are open), select which folder to save it to and to enter a name for your cell coverage configuration. Note, you can only save a cell coverage configuration to its own folder or a folder you manually created.

    NOTE: The map configuration details are not saved along with the cell coverage map. To save the map configuration details use Save map view.

  • Add to favorites: Click to add all the cell coverage results currently displayed on the map to the Favorites folder. Note, the Favorites folder is always displayed at the top of the Cell coverage tab and on the Case analysis tab. The Favorites folder is useful for adding important cell coverage results to so that you can easily reference them in the future.

  • Save WiFi coverage: Click to save the current WiFicoverage configuration. A Save coverage dialog box opens allowing you to select which folder to save it to and to enter a name for your WiFi coverage configuration. Note, you can only save a WiFi coverage configuration to its own folder or a folder you manually created.

    NOTE: The map configuration details are not saved along with the WiFi coverage map. To save the map configuration details use Save map view.

  • Add location data: Click to open the New location data dialog box which allows you to quickly add location data for GPS pings and timing advance arcs. This is useful if you've contacted the service provider for the latest location data and rather than wait for them to send it to you, it allows you to enter it manually.

  • Snapshot analysis: Click to open the Snapshot GAR analysis dialog box which allows you to configure and run a GAR snapshot analysis in OSS-ESPA. For further information refer to Running a GAR snapshot analysis in OSS-ESPA.

This menu also appears if you right-click an area on the map where there are no sectors.

Click this icon to select the normal map operation mode. When normal map operation is selected the icon's background is orange. Normal map operation mode allows you to do such things as view sector and target information.

Click to either open the:

  • Map options dialog box, which allows you to set the zoom level used on the map when you click Zoom in one of the data tables below the map. It also allows you to set values for how the sector beam widths and radiuses are displayed on the map. You can also set the default values for how these display each time a new case is viewed.
  • Advanced options dialog box, which allows you to configure many features of the map.

Click this icon to select between the map drawing tools.

Select Ruler to put the map into the measure distance mode. The measure distance mode allows you to estimate distances on the map. For example, it is useful for estimating the distance a cell covers, or the distance between cells. For further information refer to Measuring distance on the map.

Select Arrow to put the map into the arrow drawing mode. Arrow drawing mode allows you to draw arrows on the map which can be used to annotate reports. For further information refer to To annotate your map view with arrows.

Select Line to put the map into the line drawing mode. Line drawing mode allows you to draw lines on the map which can be used to identify areas on the map for reports. For further information refer to To annotate your map view with lines.

Select Polygon to put the map into the polygon drawing mode. When polygon drawing mode is selected the icon's background is orange. Polygon drawing mode allows you to draw polygons on the map which can be used for a number of reasons, for example to identify your drive area, create a target location, and to determine which data lies inside or outside the polygon, this can be helpful for example when you are analyzing where a target phone was based on timing advance or geo-location data.

The following links show procedures in which the polygon mode is used.

This icon is not available when you are performing an X-Case analysis, that is, analyzing data from multiple cases.

Click this icon to select the add target locations mode. The add target location mode provides an additional method of adding target locations. It allows you to click a location on the map and add it as a target location. Once added, the target location is displayed on the Target locations tab and the Locations section of the Manage case screen. For further information refer to Adding target locations using the map.

Click to select the type of analysis you want to run, either Cell footprint analysis, WiFi footprint analysis, Link analysis, Snapshot analysisor Precision loc analysis. Note, the Link analysis is not available when you are performing an X-Case analysis, that is, analyzing data from multiple cases.

Running a cell footprint analysis requires option E3 Drive data/analytics. Running a link analysis requires option E4 Phone data/analytics. Running a WiFi footprint analysis requires option E12 WiFi data/analytics. If you do not have any of these options, Analysis is not available.

You can set multiple analyses to run at the same time, for example, if the drive was performed for two network operators using multiple devices, you may need to run an analysis for the two operators.

  • The Cell footprint analysis uses the geographical area displayed on the map. When you select Cell footprint analysis the Cell footprint analysis dialog box opens. This dialog box allows you to select appropriate drive test devices to run the analysis against.

    NOTE: Before you run an analysis ensure that the geographical area you want to analyze is displayed on the map as the available drive data files and the analysis is based on what is displayed on the map.

  • The WiFi footprint analysis uses the geographical area displayed on the map. When you select WiFi footprint analysis the WiFi footprint analysis dialog box opens. This dialog box allows you to select the type of WiFi analysis results you require and an appropriate drive test devices to run the analysis against .

    NOTE: Before you run an analysis ensure that the geographical area you want to analyze is displayed on the map as the available drive data files and the analysis is based on what is displayed on the map.

  • The information displayed on the map is not relevant when you run a link analysis. When you select Link analysis the Link analysis dialog box opens. This dialog box allows you to select the date range for the analysis and which phones you want to include.
  • The information displayed on the map is not relevant when you run a snapshot analysis. When you select Snapshot analysis the Snapshot selector dialog box opens. This dialog box allows you to select the required Snapshot analyses.

Click to open the Narrative manager dialog box which allows you to create and edit your narratives.

This button is only displayed if the Cell coverage tab is open. Click the button to display a menu which allows you to select what type of cell coverage result you want displayed then click the sector of interest. The cell coverage result is displayed on the map. If you have more than one analysis open on the Cell coverage tab or more than one channel that provides cell coverage for the selected sector then the Cell coverage dialog box opens allowing you to select the coverage analysis of interest. Click the sector once more to remove the cell coverage from the map. For further information on each of the cell coverage results refer to About cell and WiFi coverage maps.

Click to open a view which allows you to select which map layers you want displayed. For further information refer to Viewing different map layers.

This button is only displayed when you are on the print screen. Click if you want the map to print in portrait view. For further information refer to Printing the map view.

This button is only displayed when you are on the print screen. Click if you want the map to print in landscape view. For further information refer to Printing the map view.

If you right-click on any location displayed on the Map view a menu displays with the following options:

  • Select all arc intersect with target location

    By default the ESPA analysis center does not display RTT arcs. Click on a location to display the arcs that intersect with the location's latitude and longitude. The arcs are displayed on the map and selected on the RTT data tab. For further information refer to Using RTT data.

  • Select all arc intersect with target location and buffer

    By default the ESPA analysis center does not display RTT arcs. Click on a location to display the arcs that intersect with the location's latitude and longitude including the location's buffer. The arcs are displayed on the map and selected on the RTT data tab. For further information refer to Using RTT data.

If you right-click on any sector displayed on the Map view a menu displays with the following options:

  • Select all calls from this sector and Deselect all calls from this sector

    By default the ESPA analysis center displays all the sectors used by the selected phones within the selected time period. However to allow you to investigate more easily the locations of specific calls you can select which sectors you want displayed. The following graphic indicates the three effects used to display a sector:

    • on the map, the sector you selected is displayed in a dark transparency effect which indicates that all calls from this sector have been selected.
    • on the map, any other sectors involved with an originating call (and also a terminating call if Exclude terminating towers is deselected) with the selected sector are displayed in either a dark transparency or a light transparency effect. The transparency effect used is dependent on the other sector's state: the dark transparency effect indicates that all calls from this other sector have been selected; and the light transparency effect indicates that only some of the calls from the other sector have been selected.
    • on the Data view's CDR data tab, all the calls associated with the sector you selected on the map are selected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether a call is selected or deselected.
    • on the Data view's Sector data tab, the sector you selected on the map is selected and any other sectors involved with either an originating or terminating call with the selected sector are either partially deselected or deselected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether all calls from the sector are either; selected (dark check), partially selected (gray check) or deselected (unchecked).
    • on the map, the sector you deselected is displayed as an outline with no transparency effect which indicates that all calls from this sector have been deselected. Note, if Show sectors without any call selection is deselected then the sector is no longer displayed on the map.
    • on the map, any other sectors involved with an originating call (and also a terminating call if Exclude terminating towers is deselected) with the deselected sector are displayed in either a light transparency or as an outline with no transparency effect. The effect used is dependent on the other sector's state: the light transparency effect indicates that some of the calls from the other sector are still selected; and the outline with no transparency effect indicates that all calls from the other sector have been deselected. Note, if Show sectors without any call selection is deselected then any sectors which now have no selected calls are no longer displayed on the map.
    • on the Data view's CDR data tab, all the calls associated with the sector you deselected on the map are deselected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether a call is selected or deselected.
    • on the Data view's Sector data tab, the sector you deselected on the map is deselected and any other sectors involved with either an originating or terminating call with the deselected sector are either partially deselected or deselected. The check box immediately beside the Zoom to column indicates whether all calls from the sector are either; selected (dark check), partially selected (gray check) or deselected (unchecked).

  • Sector properties...

    Click to open the Sector information dialog box which allows you to view and edit the details of the sector and include them in advanced analysis reports. For further information refer to Sector information dialog box.

  • Select all arcs from this sector and Deselect all arcs from this sector

    By default the ESPA analysis center does not display RTT arcs. Click to display and clear the arcs from the map and to update their check-box selection on the RTT data tab. For further information refer to Using RTT data.

If you right-click an area on the map where multiple sectors are located then select either Select all calls from this sector or Deselect all calls from this sector the Select Sectors dialog box opens which allows you to select which of the sectors you are interested in. For further information refer to Select sectors dialog box.

If you right-click an area on the map where multiple sectors are located then select Select properties the Select Sector dialog box opens which allows you to select and view the information of each sector individually. For further information refer to Select sector dialog box.

You can only save maps to folders you manually created, they cannot be saved to folders created by an analysis. The saved map is then displayed in the analysis folder on the Call analyses tab. The complete list of map details saved is:

    • The case file number, phone user details, CDR data, sector data, target locations, timeline, contact data, RTT data, HO data, public records and maps.
    • The map zoom.
    • Any filters, column selections and column ordering applied to any tabs.
    • The calls and call locations that are selected on the CDR data tab.
    • The sectors that are selected on the Sector data tab.
    • The target locations that are selected on the Target locations tab.
    • The address locations and the record usage that are selected on the Public records tab.
    • The RTT arcs that are selected on the RTT data tab.
    • The handovers that are selected on the HO data tab.

    NOTE: The coverage maps are not saved along with these details. To save coverage maps use Save cell coverage or Save WiFi coverage.

  • Save cell coverage: Click to save the current cell coverage configuration. A Save coverage dialog box opens allowing you to: select the cell coverage analysis you want to save (only if multiple are open), select which folder to save it to and to enter a name for your cell coverage configuration. Note, you can only save a cell coverage configuration to its own folder or a folder you manually created.

    NOTE: The map configuration details are not saved along with the cell coverage map. To save the map configuration details use Save map view.

  • Add to favorites: Click to add all the cell coverage results currently displayed on the map to the Favorites folder. Note, the Favorites folder is always displayed at the top of the Cell coverage tab and on the Case analysis tab. The Favorites folder is useful for adding important cell coverage results to so that you can easily reference them in the future.

  • Save WiFi coverage: Click to save the current WiFicoverage configuration. A Save coverage dialog box opens allowing you to select which folder to save it to and to enter a name for your WiFi coverage configuration. Note, you can only save a WiFi coverage configuration to its own folder or a folder you manually created.

    NOTE: The map configuration details are not saved along with the WiFi coverage map. To save the map configuration details use Save map view.

  • Add location data: Click to open the New location data dialog box which allows you to quickly add location data for GPS pings and timing advance arcs. This is useful if you've contacted the service provider for the latest location data and rather than wait for them to send it to you, it allows you to enter it manually.

  • Snapshot analysis: Click to open the Snapshot GAR analysis dialog box which allows you to configure and run a GAR snapshot analysis in OSS-ESPA. For further information refer to Running a GAR snapshot analysis in OSS-ESPA.

This menu also appears if you click .

If you right-click an area on an existing polygon then a menu opens displaying the following options:

  • Remove polygon: Click to delete the selected polygon.

  • Rename polygon: Click to change the selected polygon's name from the default name. By default the polygons are named as "Polygon n" where n is an integer.

  • Resize and move polygon: Click to change the selected polygon's size and position. When you select this, a solid orange circle is displayed in the center and at one point of the polygon. Click the orange circle at the point of the polygon to rotate and re-size the polygon. Click the circle in the center of the polygon to move the polygon to a new position.

  • Modify polygon appearance: Click to change the line, fill and text of the selected polygon. The Drawing options dialog box opens. This only changes the selected polygon's appearance, if you want to change the default appearance of all new polygon's click then Drawing appearance.
  • Save drawing layer: Click to save any polygons, lines or arrows that you have created.
  • Save polygon as a target location: Click to save the polygon as a target location. The Target location information dialog box opens with the latitude and longitude defined as being the center of the polygon. You can then enter the name and any other details you want to include then click OK. The target location is now included on the Target locations tab and the Legend view and is identified as a polygon target location by . Note, you cannot change the Location type of a polygon.

  • Modify polygon boundaries: Click to change the selected polygon's boundaries. When you select this, each point on the polygon displays a solid orange circle, and the center point of each segment of the polygon displays a shaded orange circle. Click these solid and shaded circles to adjust the polygon boundaries.

  • Select all calls inside the polygon: Click to select all the calls made from the sectors which have coverage within the polygon boundaries. If there are multiple sectors involved in the area then the Select sectors dialog box opens and allows you to select the sectors of interest. The CDR data tab is then updated to show these calls as selected. Note, any previously selected calls will still remain selected on the CDR data tab.
  • Select all calls outside the polygon: Click to select all the calls made from the sectors which have coverage outside the polygon boundaries. The CDR data tab is then updated to show these calls as selected. Note, any previously selected calls will still remain selected on the CDR data tab.
  • Select all geo-loc data inside the polygon: Click to select all the geo-location events that occurred within the polygon boundaries. The Geo-loc data tab is then updated to show these events as selected. Note, any previously selected events will still remain selected on the Geo-loc data tab.

This feature is useful for annotating maps for advanced analysis reports. If you right-click an area on an existing line then a menu opens displaying the following options:

  • Rename line: Click to change the selected line's name from the default name. By default the lines are named as "Line n" where n is an integer.

  • Resize and move line: Click to change the selected line's size and position. When you select this, the end and the center of the line display a solid orange circle. Click the orange circle on the end of the line to rotate and re-size the line. Click the circle in the center of the line to move the line to a new position.

  • Modify line appearance: Click to change the appearance of the line and text of the selected line. The Drawing options dialog box opens. This only changes the selected line's appearance, if you want to change the default appearance of all new line's click then Drawing appearance.
  • Save drawing layer: Click to save any polygons, lines or arrows that you have created.
  • Save line as target location: Click to save the line as a target location. The Target location information dialog box opens with the latitude and longitude defined as being the start of the line. You can then enter the name and any other details you want to include then click OK. The target location is now included on the Target locations tab and the Legend view and is identified as a line target location by . Note, you cannot change the Location type of a line from the drawing type.
